__Banners__ Banners represent the armies of the regents. The power of a banner is represented by Strength values. 1 GC buys 100 Strength Each Banner can only accommodate 1500 Strength. Banners can be upgraded in several ways, the first three are called attachments, the last is the banner level. * Elites: Regiments of Reknown, Elites add specific bonuses to banners. Each banner can have 1 per 500 power.(i.e. 1500 can have three) E.g. "Crumech's Rake, are an elite heavy infantry regiment that can be added to a banner they are skilled pikemen and add +1 to any hold action. When a banner drops by 500 manpower(I. E. 1000 from 1500) it would lose the ability to accommodate 3 elite units and one at random is lost. * Generals: Powerful Characters who again add specific bonuses, but add no Strength. Each banner may only have a single general. General bonuses are varied and sometimes contain special abilities that can totally change a battle. (e.g. Viktor the Vicious allows the strategy "insane charge", which is generates a random number +3/-3 to the battle results. Generals can be captured or killed in battles that are lost. * Artefacts: Powerful magic items, which, you guessed it, add specific bonuses. Artefacts have a specific ability. (e.g. Sword of sharpness: any attachment which has the property armoured is ignored for this conflict. All attachments have one or more trait. These traits may interact. * Level: Banners gain levels. This represents experience. Green-Regular-Seasoned-Veteran-Elite. This level helps when a Banner loses and how it falls back to reduce losses. All banners gain a racial bonus: The most common bonus is Anuirian (Human): Which is Tenacious, meaning that their armies are less likely to be scattered. Dwarven Banners gain a bonus to use the HOLD tactic in combat. This means that the bonus is doubled if chosen. This does however make it quite likely that a dwarven general will hold. Unless you want to min max. **Battles** When battles take place, the total strength of the combined forces of each side are added, plus any bonuses for Elites, Generals, Artefacts and spells. This will take place in the battle sub phase The commanders of the Banners select from a list of tactics dependent on whether they are attacking or defending, which maybe beneficial dependent on their opponents choice. The Offensive Strategies are * Charge * Flank * Surprise Attack The Defensive Strategies are * Hold * Counter attack * Withdraw Some banner attachments can add special strategies Finally, regents may spend up to 3 points of regency to sway the battle. The resultant casualties and battle outcome will be applied. If a battle has gone particularly badly then the banner may be scattered and will reform in its nation's capital. A defeated banner will have to retreat from the province or retreat into a fortification within the province. If it retreats the enemy commander can choose to pursue. Retreating banners that cannot escape due to Difficult terrain (Seas, Mountains, Rivers) or hostile banners are destroyed. Scattered armies that had no line of retreat are also destroyed.
